A Brief Look At Bridgnorth

The town of Bridgnorth is full of heritage as well as being an attractive ancient market town nestling in the Severn Valley. The town is divided into two distinct parts, High Town overlooking the river Severn and Low Town on the banks of the river Severn. There are many old and interesting streets and steps connecting the two and also the steepest funicular railway in the country.

In High Town can be found the remains of Bridgnorth Castle, the ancient North Gate, the Old Town Hall, The Old Grammar School, St Leonard's Church and Richard's Baxter House. There is also a very interesting and scenic cliff top walk that takes you past St Mary's church and the Theatre-on-the-Steps.

In Low Town you can enjoy scenic walks along the banks of the river Severn, view Lavington's Hole or take a trip on the world famous Severn Valley Steam Railway. Bishop Percy's House and Cartway are other old historical attractions.

There are many unique shops to Bridgnorth with antiques, curios and speciality craft shops in abundance. The Golden Lion is perfectly positioned to enjoy all of these attractions.
